About this Dashboard
- This dashboard is updated monthly with new job postings data collected from thousands of Canadian websites and job boards by Vicinity Jobs.
- The dashboard offers a view of what Canadian energy employers are looking for in potential new hires. It allows users to explore timely, granular labour market intelligence related to energy and energy-related online job postings.
- Data is presented for 81 occupations (NOC) across the following 9 energy and energy-related industries (NAICS):
- Oil and gas extraction (NAICS 211)
- Mining (NAICS 212)
- Energy services (NAICS 213)
- Utilities (NAICS 221)
- Heavy and civil engineering construction (NAICS 237)
- Petroleum and coal product manufacturing – refining (NAICS 324)
- Chemical manufacturing (NAICS 325)
- Pipelines (NAICS 486)
- Professional, scientific and technical services (NAICS 541)
Data Limitations
- This dashboard presents a sample of online job postings. While this sample is large, it is only a subset of all job postings. Though many employers actively recruit online, job postings do not represent job vacancies.
- Many employers hire internally or through word of mouth. These sources of information about employment demand cannot be captured in online job posting data.
- Employers are not required to follow a standard format when creating a job posting. Many employers only include information pertaining to the duties of a particular job and industry information and other details are sometimes missing from job postings.
- While a large number of employers in the professional, scientific and technical services (NAICS 541) and heavy and civil engineering construction (NAICS 237) industries provide services to the various energy sectors (such as engineering, design, accounting, legal, computer/IT, or technical consulting services), not all the occupations posted may be energy related.
